The primary mission of SCI-BLAST is providing students with the opportunity to explore science-related issues in a manner that gives these issues relevance to their daily lives
SCI-BLAST is structured to build student self-esteem, enhance oral and written communication skills, and improve individual and group problem solving skills. It provides students with the confidence needed to effectively use e-mail for communication, and use the Internet for gathering and disseminating information. SCI-BLAST promotes active learning by empowering students to address the complex task-oriented problem of communicating science related issues to their peers. Researchers interviewed by the students serve as role models. SCI-BLAST gives participating students and students that access the SCI-BLAST Web site the opportunity to visualize themselves as scientists and relate science to their personal lives.
